Summer Camp 2009 was held at Delaware State Park in Delaware Ohio. Delaware State Park is in the central part of Ohio and is leased property from the US Army Corp of Engineers. The 1330 acre lake is a Corp of Engineers Flood Control Project which was completed in 1951.

The campsite was spacious enough to have an adult area ....
Lots of room for the kitchen area and bikes....
And a separate camping area for the boys.
This beautiful view of Delaware Lake was what we saw from our campsite.
On Tuesday, we held a competition among the boys.
All events were timed
First, a canoe is rowed out to a marker buoy. Go around the buoy, come halfway back and flip the canoe. Then bring the canoe back to shore.

Swimming was another part of the contest.
Delaware State Park had a very nice beach area. Beside holding part of Tuesday's competition there, Kevin earned his Swimming Merit Badge.
Always plenty of time to splash around too!
Fire building was the final part of Tuesday's fun.

Delaware State Park is a flood control project built by the US Army Corp of Engineers in the Early 1950's. It is used for drinking water for the town of Delaware Ohio and surrounding communities. The gates in the dam control water flow protecting Columbus from flooding from the north.
On Thursday, we toured the dam and levees at the lower end of the lake.
A view of the dam's tailrace from on top of the dam.
The lake side of the dam.
The creek that was dammed to make the lake.
More canoeing fun.
